Final Reflection

I honestly think I did pretty well in this class considering the last time I took this class I dropped out. I feel I was pretty engaged when we were having in person class and started to lose interest once we turned to online but I still did most of my assignments. I actually put in more effort in this class than I ever have in any of my college classes from the past. Some challenges were getting used to blogging for the whole class to see and thinking of things to blog about. I just decided that I could do it so I did it. I feel my performance in this class was pretty well. Honestly I think this class impacted me academically in a way that makes me more confident to write for other teachers.

“It’s important to me to continue my education after highschool because both of my parents went to college and I want to follow in their footsteps. They made a really good life for my sisters and I. I also want to make a good life for my family someday. I would like to be successful in the career I choose and continuing my education is a step towards that.”

“I recently struggled immensely with my mental health and ended up spending a month in the hospital. While I was in the hospital, the meds I was on made me forget like 2 weeks of me time there. Some other patients tried to fill me in on what happened but I couldn’t remember anything. Being in the hospital made me want to continue college and maybe become a nurse like the ones who helped me. I had a really hard time being away from my family but the nurses in Generose made my stay a little better. They would play games with me, take me outside on nice days, bring me up to the art room, play on a computer and more to make me feel more comfortable. Someday i’d like to do the same for others who have to go through what I went through.”

I feel like I was pretty confident in these paragraphs, talking about what’s important to me and being able to talk about my hospital experience is a big step for me. Link to post

“Snapchat is an app where you can send picture messages, text messages, call, facetime, use silly filters, and post pictures. You can connect with people all over the world, you can see their location, what they’re doing (if they posted or snapped you about it), how long ago they were active, etc. There are so many different things you can do with snapchat, it’s crazy. Talking to your friends has never been easier and they’re always a click away.”

I’m proud of this post because I felt like I made a very good argument for why snapchat is a good thing. Link to post

Things I gained from this course are confidence in my writing and i’m not afraid to write stuff that others will read. I plan to keep blogging on my personal blog about my life and adventures to come.

The Mentors

The first creators blog I have been reading and learning from is called “The Blonde Abroad”. Her name is Kiki and she lives in South Africa, she has traveled to 70 countries all over the world and she talks about them in her blog. She takes pictures of the places she travels and writes about her experiences there. Her blog has ads and is layed out nicely. The Blonde Abroad Another creator I have been learning from is called “Adventurous Kate”. Her name is Kate and she’s traveled to 83 countries and all 7 continents. She’s gone from being shipwrecked in Indonesia to swimming in the frigid waters in Antarctica and much more. Her blog also has ads and is layed out nicely. Adventurous Kate Both of the blogs I looked at, had easy access and super cool information.

Self Representation

Parmigianino painted a self portrait in a convex mirror. He used oil paints to paint on the hollow inside of half a wooden ball to mimic the shape of the mirror he copied his reflection from. This man used a convex mirror to see himself and today we use digital technology.

We snap selfies on our phones and post them to a bunch of social media platforms. We write about our lives in blogs and status updates on Facebook. With digital cameras, smart phones, and social media, it’s easier to create and share our self representations. Self representations have always been apart of our culture and over time have become easier to create. People have drawn, carved, sculpted, and painted images of ourselves for milllenia. People have kept diaries, scrapbooks, and photo albums. Also people have sung ballads and told stories about themselves.

Augustine and Montaige wrote the first autobiographies and the first personal essays. We also write about our thoughts and our experiences. Like Benjamin Franklin and the farmer keeping a weather diary, we track our habits, locations, to do lists and other data about our lives.

Scholarship Video

Hi, my name is Gabrielle Louks and i’m a freshman at Rochester Community and Technical College in Rochester, Minnesota. I don’t actually live in Rochester though. I live on a farm in between two small towns called Hayfield and Blooming Prairie. On my families farm, we have pigs and crops, both corn and beans. We used to have elk as well.

It’s important to me to continue my education after highschool because both of my parents went to college and I want to follow in their footsteps. They made a really good life for my sisters and I. I also want to make a good life for my family someday. I would like to be successful in the career I choose and continuing my education is a step towards that.

I recently struggled immensely with my mental health and ended up spending a month in the hospital. Someday i’d like to do the same for others who have to go through what I went through.

Blogosphere

The blogosphere grows and new members stake their place on the frontier, issues of access and attention become more important. Tools like Blogger and Movable Type have reduced barriers to online participation and have also removed the authority. Weblogs destroy the intrinsic value of publishing because they are a platform for the unlimited reproduction and distribution of the written word, for a low and fixed cost. No barriers to entry, no limits on supply, no economies of scale.

Writing on a blog is more cost efficient than printing. The low cost appeal of instant publishing promotes a democratic feeling that permeates the blogosphere, when one considers global internet access and usage, it’s clear that the community represents a relativity small number of global elites who have the luxury of time, talent and expendable wealth.

There are no formal mechanisms barring entry into the blogosphere, the mere luxury of internet access remains out of reach for the vast majority of global citizens. Many blogging services are free but the substantial amount of capital and operating costs needed to simply access the internet are obstacles to many in the world. Global patterns of information technology usage show that developing countries lag behind developed countries in terms of access and sophistication of use.

Why Snapchat?

Snapchat is an app where you can send picture messages, text messages, call, facetime, use silly filters, and post pictures. You can connect with people all over the world, you can see their location, what they’re doing (if they posted or snapped you about it), how long ago they were active, etc. There are so many different things you can do with snapchat, it’s crazy. Talking to your friends has never been easier and they’re always a click away. There are many benefits to having snapchat, like I mentioned before. Snapchat is where you can send and post candid and casual pictures. It’s a fun, entertaining and authentic app. It’s less formal than facebook or Instagram, where you try to look your best always and make sure you don’t post things that hurt others feelings. Facebook is the social media account that you have your grandparents on so obviously you’re less likely to post things that don’t mean anything. On facebook, you’re probably posting about your family, cute quotes, silly memes that are appropriate for younger kids, etc. Unless your account is private on facebook, anyone can see your stuff which sometimes isn’t such a good thing. Facebook and snapchat are similar in the way that you can get your news from the social media platforms. On snapchat there is less social pressure, there’s no like button and the snapchats disappear after 24 hours or after you open the snap that was sent to you. Snapchat is a way for people to express their artistic side by being able to draw on posts, use filters or create filters even, you can pick your caption and pretty much everything about the picture.

The set up of my blog

I made a blog with this website a year ago so I got to login with that account and add this one to it. That made some of the setup way easier. I didn’t know what I was doing most of the time and just kind of played around with the themes and other stuff. It wasn’t hard to set this blog up. It was a little confusing because I’ve only set up a blog on my phone so this was all new to me. It seemed a lot easier to create a blog account on the computer than the phone. The ways this blog set up required me to think and read was making a URL for the blog, I had to think about what I wanted and what to name my blog. I had to read everything in the directions and all the buttons that could get me to the themes or where the posts are. There wasn’t as much reading as I thought there would be but that is totally fine with me. If you’re reading a book there’s a lot more reading than setting up a blog. In my first post, I mostly just copied what I wrote about myself for the pen pal paper so it was easier than this post.

Intro to me

Hi, my name is Gabrielle Renee Louks. I am a part-time student, I’m taking reading and writing critically 1, english express and yoga. I work at Lowes in the paint department. I have two sisters, both younger than me. (16) (11). I am 19, I will be 20 on February 13th. I will be in Marco Island, Florida for my birthday this year. I enjoy shooting archery, swimming, tanning, hanging with friends, shopping, playing with animals and much more. I live in Blooming Prairie but attended Hayfield for school because my parents went there too. I technically live in Blooming Prairie because my house is in the middle of nowhere. My address is Blooming Prairie but our home phone number is Hayfield because we live exactly on the line between the two towns.
