Hi, my name is Gabrielle Louks and i’m a freshman at Rochester Community and Technical College in Rochester, Minnesota. I don’t actually live in Rochester though. I live on a farm in between two small towns called Hayfield and Blooming Prairie. On my families farm, we have pigs and crops, both corn and beans. We used to have elk as well.

It’s important to me to continue my education after highschool because both of my parents went to college and I want to follow in their footsteps. They made a really good life for my sisters and I. I also want to make a good life for my family someday. I would like to be successful in the career I choose and continuing my education is a step towards that.

I recently struggled immensely with my mental health and ended up spending a month in the hospital. While I was in the hospital, the meds I was on made me forget like 2 weeks of me time there. Some other patients tried to fill me in on what happened but I couldn’t remember anything. Being in the hospital made me want to continue college and maybe become a nurse like the ones who helped me. I had a really hard time being away from my family but the nurses in Generose made my stay a little better. They would play games with me, take me outside on nice days, bring me up to the art room, play on a computer and more to make me feel more comfortable. Someday i’d like to do the same for others who have to go through what I went through.
